I have a witch of some type in each of my windows! They look fabulous and have a huge impact for just about $1 per window!!! They're not that difficult to make, so let's get started!
I had these up last year also, but it was before I knew anything and I just drew them by hand. I redid them this year and they look much better and more proportioned.
All you need is:
- Black poster board
- Printer
- Tape
- Scissors
First thing's first. Google a witch silhouette that you like. You can use whatever image you want (it doesn't even have to be a witch)! Once you find your image right click it and save the image to your computer.
Next, use some type of editing software to turn the silhouette into an outline (for the sake of saving printer ink!!!). I use Paint.net - it's a free image editing software. If you want to use my images, here they are already outlined: Just right click, and save to your computer. :)
Measure the window that you are going to put the witch or other image in.
Then you'll upload your image to block posters. In step 2 on this webpage you will be able to decide how large you want your image. It goes by the number of pages wide. Increase the number until it's the size you want. It will also give you an approximation of the size of your image. So, keep increasing the size until it is as close as possible to the measured size of your window. In the 3rd and final step on this webpage it gives you the option to download your enlarged image as a PDF. After that it's time to print!
DO NOT FREAK OUT! Your image will print all pixelated since you enlarged it so much! I figure this really doesn't matter because you are just using the printout as a cutting guide.
After your image prints, lay your poster board on the ground. Then piece your image together on top of the poster like a puzzle. I found it very helpful to just hit my back arrow (which took me to step 2 on the block posters website) so I could see the grid of how the images printed. Tape the printed images together, and begin cutting the outline.
Note: You can also use this same method to make a wooden witch. Just follow the same directions above, but use plywood instead of poster board. Tape the image directly to the wood, and cut with a jigsaw. Paint black.
You can use these year after year, and they're so easy and cheap that you can make new ones yearly if you want! My windows took about 2 poster boards per window and I got them for only 60 cents each!
They look fantastic day or night! In the day I keep all my blinds shut because the black shows up so much better against my white plantation shutters. At night I crack them slightly and have a lamp placed in front of each window with an orange light bulb for an extra creepy effect! You can use any color or just turn the room light on!

I made more of these with different images a couple of years later! Check them out!
