Fresh Mid-Century Dining Room

Mid-Century Dining Room - MCM, midcentury

Good morning internet! I hope y'all are having a great new year. Thanks for taking a moment to spend a bit of it with me! I'm super motivated to get lots of projects done in this house...but that's always the way a new year makes you feel! I hope the momentum lasts! Painting the dining room is my first official project of 2018!

It's amazing how a fresh coat of white paint can make a space feel more open, bright, and alive! The room was green before. Honestly, I didn't mind the shade; however it definitely didn't match my vision for this place. Not to mention the entire house...this room especially really needs a new coat of paint. The walls were super scuffed and dirty. Plus, the trim was PAINTED BROWN. *vomit*

Ethan and I tackled this together. Can you believe he's 15 now? FIFTEEN! Sheesh. His painting skills are getting so much better. I'll make a DIYer out of him yet! ;) Unfortunately, painting a room is a days long process for us because I try to work mainly after the girls are in bed...so that's one coat a day essentially. Typically when we paint together, I'll do all of the cutting in and trim, and he rolls. He was complaining quite a bit about this arrangement. "Look at all of what I've done and you only do this little part." *evil mom stare* "Yeah, well TIME WISE, mine part definitely takes longer than yours!" So. True. I was painting a couple days after he was done! Touch ups, precision work. So slow!

Aside from the paint, there are some other noticeable changes in this room. But I'm getting way too far ahead of myself! Here's a look at the before:

And the before before - move in day! Yes, all the floors in this house are different colors. =/ I think I've done a pretty good job camouflaging it all with area rugs! The rug in my dining room is super affordable for an 8x10!

Back to what's new...the ceiling fan has been replaced by a boob! Not my choice, exactly. Let me explain. My bedroom is mostly white, but the fan in there was brown. So, I moved the white fan from the dining room into my room. Then I noticed the fan in Ethan's room was the same as the fan in the area next to the kitchen. Of course that one was moved into the kitchen to match. My brown fan went in Ethan's room. And the boob light was moved from the kitchen to the dining room as a temporary fix. Don't worry, I have an amazing chandelier on the brain!

I also swapped the chairs for some dreamy mid-century ones! They are literally exactly what I wanted! I went through 2 other sets of MCM chairs before finding these. I like how they're taller than the table. All the other chairs had low backs that were even with the table top. Having a chunkier table, it didn't look right! I snagged 6 of these beauties for $200! That's less than ONE of some of the mid-century reproductions!

Speaking of chairs. This one is my all time favorite find.

This is my view from the kitchen. That entire wall is glaringly blank. I'm going to add a row of large family photos. I swear I don't have any family pictures up anywhere!

I'm still smitten with my baby handprint and footprint art! Who says kids' crafts can't be tasteful décor!?

I definitely have more projects planned for this space, but it sure is shaping up nicely in the mean time!
