I needed a new tree skirt since last year's was red. Walmart had a pretty peacock-ey (yes that's a word now!) one, but it was $36! Forget that. So, I just nabbed 2 yards of teal fabric and draped it around the bottom of the tree. It cost me like $6. I think it looks more custom, and I didn't even bother sewing it at all. Hooray for laziness!
I also DIY'ed the tree topper. It was easy peasy. Just glue some peacock feathers in a pattern that you like to a Dollar Tree gold star! I had all the stuff to make it, so it didn't cost me a dime! Other than that I followed the same steps for decorating my tree as last year.
A word on the peacock feathers...I know they are CRAZY expensive in the stores. Like $6 for one little bundle of 3, or something dumb. When I ordered mine for our wedding, I got them off Ebay. They were SUPER cheap. Now, I will say that I don't think they were sterilized or anything...just plucked straight from the peacock's butt. If that sort of thing bothers you, well then... I figure I'm not eating off them or anything so whatever!
I also de-lighted my trees this year. They were the pre-lit kind, but those lights never work very long. =/. So, kiddo and I spent more time that I'd like to admit cutting out all of those lights. In the future, I won't buy any tree pre-lit if I can help it. You can also check out my opinion of artificial versus real trees.
Anyway, not much else to say about the tree - so, here's some more pictures! Enjoy!
And yes, I repainted part of my 3D picture frames. I'm trying to trend the house toward a darker blue. Hubby likes that much better.
P.S. I have a second tree coming soon!!! :)
